Our Heritage

The C. R. Gamble Funeral Home & Chapel is celebrating it's 45th year of service to the community of Mississippi Mills (Almonte, Pakenham, Clayton, Corkery, Lanark-Highlands and beyond) this year. Reg & Gail Gamble purchased the Comba Funeral Home from the estate of the late Murray Comba following his death in 1973. Murray had assumed ownership of the family funeral home from his dad the late George L. Comba. George started the business in 1920.

The building itself is an impressive 4 story structure built in 1854 by Daniel Galbraith. Mr Galbraith was a lumber baron and a lawyer. He eventually served as the area representative in the Federal Legislature. This distinctive and well known edifice features solid oak wainscoting, moldings and doors a stately old 1/4 cut oak fireplace, very impressive turn of the century stained glass, high ornate ceilings. It is tastefully and professionally decorated and is adapted well to suit the needs of all the families we serve.

We are handicapped accessible and are currently in the process of redoing our washrooms to make them more handicapped friendly.

In 1988 Reg & Gail undertook a massive construction project and added an additional 1,500 square feet to the building, In so doing the Gamble's presented the residence of Mississippi Mills with their first ever Funeral Home Chapel. The new Chapel with its expandable area can accommodate Services with more than 200 people. The Gamble's have always prided themselves in being leaders in the field of service to those who call on us at a difficult time.
