Condolence From: Ellen Bond
Condolence: Illy was a true friend. His wit, intelligence and talent is fondly remembered by myself and others. I last saw Mike in PEI at a track meet, years after he retired from Kenner. He was the exact same as I had always known him to be. He touched so many lives and will be missed.

Condolence: I have missed Mike ever since he left Kenner. He was one of the first people to take me under his wing and befriend me as I joined the Kenner family. He was a natural at what he did, his advice was sage yet witty but always on target. Students were always at the top of his priorities and I know that he influenced many lives. Mike will be missed but never forgotten.

Condolence From: Mike Sloan
Condolence: Condolences to family and friends. Mike taught with my dad at Lakefield District Secondary School. I still remember in the early '80s, he came over and cooked Chinese food for not only our family but a number of others. He also left a bunch of Asian bowls and spoons that I'm fairly certain are still at the family home today. While I was young, I've never forgotten that dinner and his love of serving it. Again, condolences to all.

Condolence: It is with much sadness that I hear of Mike's passing away. I knew Mike mostly as a Technical Manager, the official at a meet who makes sure all of the throwing implements, crossbars, hurdles, etc. meet the required specifications. He was a mentor to me and just about every other Technical Manager in the province.
Mike had a great sense of humour and the air was always light when he was in the weigh-in room. The other thing I must mention is that Mike was always very receptive to requests from meet directors, officials, coaches and athletes. He would do whatever was possible while still observing the rules, which would give the performances legitimacy.
Mike was also very active in the administration of the sport, having served as an OTFA Board member and member of the Technical Committee. During his time on the Committee there was a massive updating of the Policies and Procedures Manual for the conduct of Championships. Much of the present content can be attributed to him.
I, and indeed the whole sport, will miss Mike and we send our sincere condolences to his family.

Condolence: It is difficult to find the words to express our most sincere sympathy to the entire Illingworth family, as once again you suffer the loss of a loved one. Your brother now rests with your Mom & Dad and perhaps, with time, that knowledge will help ease the pain, the heartache you are now feeling ... Those we love remain with us always, in our hearts and in our memories ...

Condolence: My deepest sympathy to the entire Illingworth Family on the passing of a GREAT man. Mike and I worked many track meets together and I always learned at least one new thing from him every time. He would sit me down and explain, teach and then quiz me. He truly was a born teacher and a great friend and outstanding Athletics Official. Rest in Peace, Mike, I will miss you and our talks.
